Chelsea Manchester City Defeat Chelsea To Close Gap On Arsenal

After defeating an injury ravaged Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City cut the distance to the Premier League’s top-placed Gunners to five points.

Riyad Mahrez’s far-post header from Jack Grealish’s low cross broke the score after 63 minutes.

The reigning champions had struggled in the first half before two of manager Pep Guardiola’s substitutes worked together to do so.

Former Manchester City forwards Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic added to an ever-growing injury list, Chelsea had the better of the first half, with replacement Carney Chukwuemeka hitting the post from the edge of the area.

Graham Potter may legitimately blame Chelsea’s bad luck with absences, but the fact remains that this loss places them in an unexpected position of 10th, 10 points outside of the Champions League spots.

City, on the other hand, will be pleased to collect three points despite not playing at their best and on a rare occasion when prolific scorer Erling Haaland missed the goal.
