Chelsea Felix Career At Chelsea Begins With Red Card and Defeat

In his Chelsea debut, Joao Felix was sent for a careless tackle on Kenny Tete of Fulham during Thursday’s Premier League match.

In the 58th minute at Craven Cottage, Felix was sent off after kicking Tete in the shin.

Just 24 hours after joining Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the season, the 23-year-old made his Chelsea debut.

Felix made an excellent first impression, producing a number of dangerous chances, but his moment of insanity resulted in his ejection with the score tied at 1.

Under-fire Graham Potter, the manager of struggling Chelsea, had hoped that the addition of Felix would help his team, which is now occupying the tenth spot in the Premier League.

“It’s a combination of a lot of things, his training, the quality he has and the team needs a little bit of lift in terms of the ability he has,” Potter told BT Sport just before kick-off at Fulham.

“He’s a confident boy and he just wants to play.

“He’s just got to be himself.

“He hasn’t had that much time with the players, so it’s just about expressing himself.”

Felix became one of the most expensive players in history when he transferred from Benfica to Atletico in 2019 for a fee of €126 million.

In 131 games for the team, he has scored 34 goals, helping the team win LaLiga in 2021.

Felix scored in the 3-2 group-stage win over Ghana as Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar last month.
