Hosts Algeria booked their semi final ticket at the African Nations Championship CHAN 2022 with a 1-0 victory against Ivory Coast on Friday thanks to late Aimen Mahious goal from the spot.

Algeria who have been in blistering form since the tournament started started on promising note hoping to get an early goal.

The hosts threatened first as a header by Zakaria Draoui hits the Ivorian post after a perfect cross from the left by Ayoub Abdellaoui.

Algeria goalkeeper, Alexis Guendouz was shown a red card after VAR review showed his infringement on Ivorian player.

Ivorian defender, Kouassi Attohoula was later shown a red card for stamping on an Algerian opponent.

With both teams levelled in number, Algeria continued to dominate possession but failed to score.

With the game almost going to extra time, the referee awarded a penalty to Algeria after Ivory Coast player fouled his opponent.

Mahious stepped forward and converted from the penalty to send Algeria to the last four.
