Carlos Queiroz

Former Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz has been named by Qatar Football Association as the new coach of their national team following the 2022 World Cup.

Qatar officials decided to sack Spanish manager Felix Sanchez as the latter failed to win them a single game during the World Cup they hosted in November and December last year.

They have now chosen Queiroz as their new manager as they prepare their Asian Cup title defence in July this year.

“As I embark on a new journey, there are many memories I will hold on to with great joy”, Carlos Queiroz wrote on social media before taking Qatar job.

“I’d like to share my gratitude to my great players in Team Melli. To all my loyal Iranian staff, to the Football Federation and everyone who supported me and the “Team Melli Legacy”.

“Thank you to all the fans for all the years of support and inspiration. To the future”, the Portuguese manager added.

In addition, Carlos Queiroz guided Egypt’s Pharaohs to AFCON 2021 finals before losing to Sadio Mane’s Senegal on penalties and bowed to the same opponents in World Cup play-offs.
