FIFA U20 WORLD CUP Bounou In Contention For FIFA Best Goalkeeping Awards

Three candidates for the best goalkeeping honor at the Fifa Best awards were announced on Wednesday: World Cup champion Emiliano Martinez, Moroccan Yassine Bounou, and Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

At the World Cup, Martinez excelled, leading his nation to victory over France in the penalty shootout.

He also stirred up controversy by making an offensive gesture at the trophy presentation when he was given the award for the best goalkeeper at the competition.

Bounou played for a defensively tough Morocco, who made history by being the first nation from Africa to go to the World Cup semifinals.

Even though Belgium had a dismal World Cup and was ousted in the group stage, Courtois had already played a key role in Real Madrid’s 14th Champions League victory.

Three goalkeepers were nominated in the women’s division: Ann-Katrin Berger of Germany, Mary Earps of England, and Christiane Endler of Chile.

On Friday, the nominees for the Puskas award for the best goal, the best male and female player awards, and other honors will be revealed.

On Thursday, the candidates for best coach will be unveiled.

On February 27, Paris will host the Fifa Awards ceremony.
