Europa League Man United Gets Another La Liga Opponent in Europa League Round Of 16

After defeating Barcelona, Manchester United will play Real Betis in the Europa League’s round of 16, while Arsenal will take on Sporting Lisbon.

On Thursday, United defeated La Liga’s top team 2-1 at Old Trafford to win the play-off match 4-3 on the overall score.

As the group winners, Arsenal will host the second leg of their match at home, while Manchester United will welcome Betis at Old Trafford.

The matches for the Europa League’s round of 16 will happen on March 9 and 16.

Premier League leaders Arsenal won Group A with five victories out of their six games, avoiding the knockout stage play-offs.

Fourth-placed Sporting of Portugal’s top division defeated third-placed Midtjylland of Denmark 5-1 in their Champions League play-off match.

Real Betis, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, finished the Europa League group stage with the best record in the competition, winning five and drawing one. They are currently fifth in La Liga.

Sevilla, a six-time champion, will take on Fenerbahce in another match, while Jose Mourinho’s Roma will take on Real Sociedad, the group winners from Manchester United.

Clubs from the same association were not permitted to be drawn against one another, hence the eight clubs that won their respective Europa League group matches were paired against the eight clubs that advanced to the knockout phase play-off matches.
