La Liga Santander Real Madrid Bounce Back To beat Espanyol Ahead Tough Week

At the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, Real Madrid rallied from a goal down to defeat Espanyol 3-1, getting back on the winning track before a week that might decide the course of the season in which they play Liverpool and Barcelona.

Real Madrid moved up to 56 points, six points behind first-place Barcelona, which will visit Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, thanks to goals from Vinicius Jr., Eder Militao, and Marco Asensio.

After Ruben Sanchez’s cross from the right side, Espanyol, who are now in 13th place, took the lead in the eighth minute when Joselu smashed the ball into the top corner past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Eduardo Camavinga managed to get a shot on goal for Real as they increased their pressure in search of a leveler, but Vinicius displayed his unique skill by cutting into the area, eluding two defenders, and firing in the 22nd minute.

The Brazilian now leads the team in scoring this season with 19 goals in all competitions, surpassing Karim Benzema.

Six minutes before halftime, with Espanyol confined to their own half, the home team took the lead when Militao headed in Aurelien Tchouameni’s cross with the outside of his foot.

After the intermission, Real kept up the pressure, and in the 75th minute, Rodrygo nearly scored a third goal with a free kick that ricocheted off the crossbar.

Real, who had lost points in draws with rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Betis in their previous two league games, secured the victory with a third goal from Asensio in stoppage time.

Due to an ankle injury, striker Karim Benzema was not involved in Real’s victory, but the Frenchman is anticipated to be ready for both Real’s match against Barcelona and Liverpool in the Champions League knockout phase the following week.
