Real Madrid Benzema Late Goal Send Real Madrid Through To Quarterfinals

Real Madrid eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League with a 6-2 overall victory after Karim Benzema’s late goal in the 86th minute of the second leg.

After losing at Anfield, Liverpool needed another incredible European comeback to go to the round of eight, but that did not happen at the Bernabeu as the defending champions rammed home their advantage with Benzema’s close-range strike (78).

In a fun first half, Jurgen Klopp’s team’s Darwin Nunez came the closest when he forced an incredible save from Thibaut Courtois.

However, Liverpool were grateful to Alisson, their own goalkeeper, for holding off Real Madrid prior to their goal.

Klopp’s team’s only remaining goal in a painfully disappointing season is a top-four finish in the Premier League after Madrid, winners against Liverpool by the same score in last year’s final, will now attempt to go on and hoist the cup for the 15th time.
