AFCON AFCON 2023 Qualifier: Bafana Bafana Held By Liberia As Senegal Thrash Mozambique

Bafana Bafana were punished for their squandering of a two-goal lead, drawing 2-2 with Liberia in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Orlando Stadium on Friday evening.

Hugo Broos’ side got off to a fast start when Lyle Foster scored from the penalty spot after 10 minutes, and the Burnley striker headed in a corner in the 22nd minute.

Tonia Tisdell came off the bench to equalize for the Lone Stars on 68 minutes, but Mohammed Sangare silenced the home crowd in stoppage time to earn a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile in Egypt, The Pharaohs edged past Malawi thanks to two first-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.

Salah has now scored 50 goals for his country.

Senegal showed no mercy to Mozambique as Sadio Mane ensured that the AFCON defending champions do not miss out in next year’s tournament to be hosted by Ivory Coast.

The Teranga Lions maintained their lead in the group with a 5-1 victory against Mozambique.

In other games played on Friday, a dramatic encounter saw South Sudan beat Congo thanks to Tito Okello’s late winner that handed Congo the three points.
