Following their elimination from the 2023 Federation Cup, Rivers United’s chances of winning a double in Nigerian football have suffered a severe blow.

After playing Young Africans in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup in Tanzania, the Pride of Rivers arrived home on Monday.

Nigeria’s national champions were eliminated by Tanzania’s team 2-0 overall.

Since Enyimba International won the Federation Cup on penalties, their comeback to the domestic scene was unsuccessful.

The People’s Elephant advanced through the round of 16 in penalty shootouts (5-4) despite the game ending without a goal for the entirety of it.

Enyimba’s 5-4 result means that Rivers United has been eliminated from two important trophies in as many days.
