Angola Petro de Luanda crowned Angola champions for second successive season

Petro de Luanda retained the Angolan Premier League title after defeating Interclube 2-0 in a Girabola fixture on Sunday.

The victory at Estadio Joaquim Diniss saw the Os Tricolores win the title for the second season in a row.

They are topping the 16-team table with 69 points from 28 matches while second-placed C.D. Primeiro de Agosto, who beat Wiliete 1-0 on Sunday, have 60 points with a game in hand.

Last season, Pedro Luanda won the title with 75 points from 35 matches, 14 points more than Primeiro de Agosto, who finished second with 61 while Sagrada Esperanca finished third.

Pedro reached the group stage of the Caf Champions League this campaign and finished third with seven points.

The group was won by Morocco’s Wydad AC, who amassed 13 points from six matches while Algeria’s JS Kabylie came second with 10 points.
