Benin have been awarded 3 points by Confederation of African Football (CAF) over player eligibility in their AFCON 2023 qualifiers’ matchday 4 against Rwanda (1-1) on March 29.
Indeed, the Beninese Football Federation (FBF) had lodged an appeal to CAF concerning the eligibility of Rwanda midfielder Kévin Muhire.
The Rayon Sports star received a yellow card during the first leg at Cotonou (matchday 3) and should therefore not play the return match for accumulation of cards since he had already been booked against Senegal (0-1 defeat) during matchday 2.
Almost two months after the reports of the FBF and the Ferwafa (Rwandan Federation), CAF delivered its verdict on Tuesday and it is in favor of Benin.

The governing body of African football has decided to “sanction Rwanda from forfeit, declare the match lost by 3-0 in accordance with article 105 of the Disciplinary Code and to dismiss any further claims”.
With these three points, Benin left last place in Group L for second with 5 points now.
Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs face Senegal in June and Mozambique in September for the matchday 5 and 6 of these qualifiers.
