Rwanda APR moves top after Kiyovu Sports suffer Sunrise FC defeat

APR FC took the leadership of the Rwandan Premier League yet again after a convincing 4-1 victory against Rwamagana City on Sunday.

Innocent Nshuti scored a hat-trick for the army men with Gilbert Mugisha adding one while Lisombo Lisele grabbed a consolation for Rwamagana in the fixture at Bugesera Stadium.

Meanwhile, Kiyovu Sports suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Sunrise FC to surrender their top spot to APR.

In the fixture at Nyagatare Stadium, Sunrise scored the all-important goal in the 70th minute courtesy of Yafesi Mubiru to confirm their stay in the top flight but dent Kiyovu’s chances of winning the title this season.

Kiyovu’s defeat saw them drop to second position in the table tied on 60 points with APR, who have a better goal difference. The army side will have to make no mistake and get nothing but a win over Espoir in their final league game to be crowned champions for the third time in a row.

But a defeat or a draw would also blow their last-minute chance of clinching the title as long as Kiyovu beat Rutsiro on May 28.

In other matches, Rayon Sports ended Marines FC’s six-game unbeaten run as they defeated them 2-0 while Rutsiro continued their survival mission with a shocking 2-0 away win over AS Kigali.
