FIFA World Cup FIFA U20WC: Senegal rally to draw against Israel

Senegal remained winless at the U20 Fifa World Cup after snatching a 1-1 draw against Israel at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata on Thursday.

After a 0-0 draw in the first half, Israel took the lead in the 58th minute when defender Babacar Ndiaye scored into his own net before Pape Diop scored the leveller in the 80th minute.

Senegal under head coach Malick Daf looked the better side in the opening exchanges of the Group C fixture and they should have taken an early lead in the 12th minute when Samba Diallo’s right-footed effort was punched out to a corner by goalkeeper Tomer Tzarfati.

Diallo was a threat for Israel and he missed another great chance in the 34th minute when his weak effort was easy for Tzarfati to deal with.

But Israel broke the deadlock when defender Ndiaye diverted the ball past his keeper Mamour Ndiaye while trying to clear a shot from Dor David Turgeman.

Senegal kept pressing and they were rewarded with 10 minutes left to the final whistle when Diop tapped the ball into the net following a cross from Mamadou Lamine Camara.

Senegal, who lost their first group match 1-0 against Japan, are now lying fourth with one point. Colombia are top with six points while Japan are second on three points.

The African side will next take on Colombia at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata on Sunday.
