Rwanda Kiyovu Sports will fight for title until last day – Mateso

Kiyovu Sports assistant coach Jean de Dieu Mateso believes they still have a good chance to lift their first-ever Rwandan Premier League title on the final day of the season.

Kiyovu’s title ambitions suffered a huge blow last Sunday after they lost 1-0 against Sunrise FC at Nyagatare Stadium to drop to second position on the league table.

With one round of matches left to conclude the season, Mateso is not giving up that his side can still challenge APR, who dislodged them from the summit.

“It’s absurd that we lost this game despite putting on a good display and missing the penalty. We should at least have got a draw but it was not our day and, like someone who played football, I believe anything can happen on the last day,” Mateso said as quoted by Times Sports.

“We can still win the title and compete for the continental tournament next season. We played a good game and lost due to a stupid mistake. It was a reckless mistake that cost us but let’s keep dreaming and fight until the end.”

The Green Baggies will need to beat Rutsiro FC on Sunday at Kigali Pele Stadium and pray that Gorilla FC can force a draw or victory against APR.
