African players abroad Sunusi on target, Wanyama features as CF Montreal advance to final

Nigeria international Sunusi Ibrahim was among the goals as CF Montreal defeated Forge FC 2-0 at Stade Saputo on Wednesday to reach their third Canadian Championship final in five years.

Goals from Ariel Lassiter and Sunusi propelled Montreal, who will now have to wait until early June for the final, where they will travel to British Columbia to face Vancouver Whitecaps, who defeated Pacific FC 3-0 in the other semis at Starlight Stadium on Wednesday.

Lassiter scored the opener for Montreal in the 54th minute before Nigeria’s Sunusi added the second in the 78th minute. Lassiter cut into the middle of the field from 30 yards out and sent the ball toward the net for the opener.

Sunusi then sealed the game with 10 minutes left to the final whistle. After winning the ball in the penalty area, the Super Eagle made a swift cut to the right and hit a powerful shot into the corner to double Montreal’s lead.

Meanwhile, former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama featured for Montreal for the entire game.
