CAF Champions League Yanga SC have received offers for Mayele – Nabi

Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Nasreddine Nabbi has admitted the club has received offers for their striker Fiston Mayele.

The 28-year-old Mayele moved to Yanga from AS Vita at the start of the current campaign and he has gone ahead to win the hearts of the club fans with his superb display in front of the goal.

Mayele is currently the leading scorer in the Caf Confederation Cup with five goals and he has also helped the Jangwani-giants to retain their Tanzanian Premier League title with two games to spare.

“I am really happy for him [Mayele] and how he is performing. I signed him from AS Vita and I am glad he has repaid the faith I had in him,” Nabi said as quoted by The Citizen.

“He has a year left on his contract and of course, there is so much interest in him but hopefully he can stay.”

Yanga are through to the final of the Confederation Cup and will face USM Alger of Algeria. Nabi took his time to explain how he plotted the downfall of South Africa’s Marumo Gallants in the semi-finals.

“We understood that Marumo are a good team, but we didn’t want to give them too much space. We made a good tactical plan for the game and we also wanted to ensure we didn’t concede in the first 25-30 minutes,” noted Nabbi.

Having won the first leg 2-0 in Tanzania, Yanga defeated Marumo 2-1 in South Africa to qualify on a 4-1 aggregate result. They will face USM in the first leg at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday before travelling to Algiers for the return leg on June 2.
