FIFA World Cup FIFA U20WC: Tunisia defeat Iraq to keep qualification hopes alive

Tunisia revived their hopes of reaching the last 16 at the U20 Fifa World Cup after hammering Iraq 3-0 at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata on Friday.

The African side under coach Montassar Louhichi were forced to wait until the second half to score the three goals courtesy of Youssef Snana in the 55th minute, Chaim El Djebali in the 57th minute and substitute Mahmoud Ghorbel in the 86th minute from the penalty spot.

Tunisia who were seeking their first victory in Group E, should have scored two or three goals in the first half but Iraq goalkeeper Hussein Hasan Amoyed Rasetim was superb to deny Snana on two occasions and Béchir Rayane Yacoub.

In the second half, Snana finally broke the deadlock after he raced clear to beat the advancing Amoyed Rasetim with a looping effort into the back of the net.

Two minutes later El Djebali doubled Tunisia’s lead after his powerful effort from outside the box beat Amoyed Rasetim with easy.

However, Tunisia suffered a blow in the 74th minute when substitute Rayan Nasraoui was sent off for a clumsy foul but Iraq failed to take advantage of the numerical numbers as Tunisia scored the third, Ghorbel converting from the penalty spot with four minutes left to the final whistle.

Tunisia, who lost their opener 1-0 against England, will now face Uruguay in their final group fixture at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on Sunday.
