A Cade Cowell wonder goal and a fine individual effort late on from Niko Tsakiris earned USA a well-deserved victory over Slovakia in the FIFA U20 World Cup.

USA finished top with nine points from three games to remain Unbeaten.

The No9 picked up the ball on the half-way line, powered through a 50-50 challenge, evaded four challenges and fired the ball home from inside the box.

Cowell almost doubled the lead, but Adam Hrdina made a fine save.

Tsakiris, Cowell’s San Jose Earthquakes team-mate, held his nerve in the penalty area late on and ensured the Stars and Stripes came away with all three points.

USA can now look forward to the last 16, while Slovakia must wait to see if they will advance as one of the four best third-placed teams.
