Young Africans (Yanga SC) assistant coach Cedric Kaze believes the team’s failure to lift the Caf Confederation Cup will motivate them to do even better next season.
The Tanzanian Premier League champions missed out on the continental trophy on the away goals rule after securing a 2-2 aggregate result against USM Alger.
In the first leg, Yanga suffered a 2-1 defeat at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium but in the return leg at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algeria on Saturday, the Timu ya Mwananchi emerged 1-0 winners thanks to the seventh-minute goal from Juma Shabani.

“We have not managed to win the title as we anticipated but this should give us the motivation to do much better next season and we have excelled to learn many things throughout the contest,” said Kaze.
“We thank our fans for being with us to this date of the competition… their support is always awesome and we are going to bounce back stronger next term.”
Meanwhile, Yanga got the opportunity to present President Samia Suluhu Hassan with a Caf medal on Monday. In his brief remarks, Yanga President Hersi Said explained without Suluhu’s visionary leadership and guidance, they could not have reached far in the competition.
“We value a lot of motivation that you provided for buying each goal that we scored and the money was going direct to the players,” said Hersi.
Yanga goalkeeper Djigui Diarra was voted Man of the Match after his spectacular performance on the night while forward Fiston Mayele emerged as the top scorer with seven goals in the competition.
