Former Young Africans (Yanga SC) head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been appointed to handle AS FAR Rabat on a two-year contract.
The 58-year-old Tunisian trainer, who left the Tanzanian champions at the end of last season and was being linked with a move to South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, becomes the first non-Moroccan African to be appointed coach of the military side, who won the Botola Pro 1 title, in the just-concluded season.
After being unveiled, Nabi said: “My past is past and I am excited about this new challenge,” adding: “A lot of work is needed to be done to prove many people wrong. Can’t wait to get started.”

He continued: “I like the mentality of this club and I know how they want things to be done since we will be playing in the Caf Champions League and must also defend our league title. This is an ambitious project and I am happy the club picked me despite several coaches from as far as Spain, France, and England, who showed interest.
“I spoke to clubs like Wydad and Kaizer Chiefs but AS FAR showed they wanted me more.”
Nabi, who has been given the opportunity to hire his own backroom staff, left Yanga after guiding them to a historic treble in the last campaign. After winning the Community Shield, Yanga defended their Tanzanian Premier League title and went on to lift the Azam Cup.
He also helped Yanga to reach their first-ever Caf Confederation Cup final where they lost to USM Alger.
