Nigerian Players abroad VAR Deny Awoniyi As Forest Share Spoils with Brentford

Taiwo Awoniyi fired blank as 10-man Nottingham Forest played a 1-1 draw to avoid defeat at home against Brentford on Sunday.

Awoniyi thought he had put Forest ahead but his goal was disallowed for offside after a lengthy VAR check in the first half.

Hos compatriot, Frank Onyeka played for just 20 minutes after he came in as a substitute.

Following a scoreless first half, Forest suffered a double punch when Christian Norgaard headed in the game’s first goal from the ensuing free kick in the 58th minute after Niakhate received a second yellow for tackling Yoane Wissa.

After falling behind, Forest fought back brilliantly, and seven minutes later Nicolas Dominguez tied the score with a spectacular header that sailed over the keeper after connecting with a cross from replacement Harry Toffolo.

Neal Maupay, Saman Ghoddos, and Michael Olakigbe were all introduced by Brentford manager Thomas Frank as his team urgently tried to win to avoid going winless for a fifth consecutive league game, but Forest hung on to earn a point each.
