Dstv Premiership Cape Town City inflicts Kaizer Chiefs fourth league defeat

Cape Town City recorded their second consecutive Premier Soccer League (PSL) victory after a 1-0 win against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The result also condemned Amakhosi to a fourth defeat in nine league matches this season as the Soweto side sit in seventh place on the table. Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki gave a full debut to Sibongiseni Mthethwa in the middle of the park, allowing Edson Castillo to push forward.

Amakhosi created a few opportunities in the first half but Christian Saile and Pule Mmodi were not able to penetrate the visitors’ defence. The Citizens were not any threat in the final third and coach Eric Tinkler changed things after the interval, introducing Taahir Goedeman and Darwin Gonzalez.

The move paid dividends just before the hour mark when the two substitutes combined down the left and Gonzalez sent in a cross that Mayo headed into the back of the net. Keagan Dolly, Mduduzi Mdantsane, and Ranga Chivaviro were introduced from the bench as Amakhosi looked to get back in the contest. The Cape side however weathered the expected onslaught and took home all three points to compound Chiefs’ problems.
