Premier League Gordon’s Controversial Goal Hand Newcastle Win over Arsenal

Anthony Gordon’s disputed goal in the second half gave Newcastle United a 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday after a a controversial VAR review that left visiting manager Mikel Arteta furious.

Newcastle United had only lost one Premier League match this season as they continue to grow stronger as title contender.

At the 64th minute, Gordon scored from close range following a scuffle in the goalmouth, firing past goalkeeper David Raya.

Before the home supporters could celebrate, there was a four minute and six second video assistant referee (VAR) pause to see if the ball went out of bounds, if there was a foul in the build-up, and if there was an offside.

Newcastle, who had won their last seven league games, moved up to sixth place with 20 points after 11 games.

Arsenal, three goals behind leaders Manchester City, are in third place with 24, having failed to score for the first time this season across all competitions.

Newcastle’s triumph completed an incredible week after they defeated League Cup leaders Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday in their fourth-round match.
