Gor Mahia blew away a golden opportunity to move five points clear at the summit of the FKF Premier League table following their 2-2 draw against a stubborn Nzoia Sugar a Homabay Stadium on Saturday.
K’Ogalo went into the matchday 14 fixture seeking to open a gap between them and second-placed Posta Rangers but it was the Sugar Millers, who took the lead against the run of play in the ninth minute courtesy of Mohamed Barisa off a cross from Joseph Oyugi.
At the half-hour mark, Barisa doubled Nzoia’s lead to stun K’Ogalo but Patrick Kaddu reduced the deficit for a 2-1 result at the half-time break. On resumption, Nzoia, who are languishing second from the bottom of the 18-team table, continued to frustrate the league champions but lead striker Benson Omalla pulled them level when he scored from the penalty spot.
The draw saw K’Ogalo maintain their unbeaten start to the season but they are now three points ahead of Posta, who are scheduled to face Tusker. Gor Mahia have won seven matches, drawn seven, and lost none, while Nzoia have won two matches, drawn four, and lost eight. Against the Soldiers’, Murang’a found themselves trailing yet again when Mark Bikokwa scored the opener in the 34th minute after connecting onto a cross from Ben Stanley’s corner.
