Osimhen’s emergence was expected after he helped Napoli to win the Scudetto after 32 years of waiting where he also finished as the highest goal scorer in the 2022/2023 Serie A season.
The forward was the highest goal scorer during the CAF TotalEnergies Nations Cup qualifiers where he scored 10 goals.
Osimhen may likely miss Napoli UEFA Champions League game against Braga on Tuesday.
Osimhen’s position in the 2023 Ballon d’Or was evidence of his impact on the historic performance of the Serie A squad.
At number nine, he became the highest-ranking African of the year and the highest-ranking Nigerian in the award’s history.
The Nigerian became the first African to win the Italian Footballers’ Association Player of the Year title earlier in the month.
Osimhen’s efforts to the Super Eagles in the reviewed year were astounding, despite Nigeria’s heartbreaking loss to longtime rivals Ghana in the World Cup 2022.
With ten goals, he led the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification race in scoring.
Despite the fact that injuries have limited his impact for Napoli this season—he has only scored six goals in ten games for Walter Mazzari’s team—Monday’s honour is the pinnacle of an incredibly productive year for the Nigerian striker.
