Sofapaka’s resurgence to avoid relegation from the FKF Premier League continued after they defeated Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 at Machakos Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega Homeboyz scored a goal in either half to sink struggling Shabana 2-0 and move second on the table with 27 points from 14 matches. Batoto ba Mungu have struggled to find balance in the current campaign and the win against Sharks hauled them from the relegation zone and it was the second straight win after shocking Nzoia Sugar 2-1 away at Sudi Stadium in their last assignment.
Donald Ange put Sharks ahead with only five minutes played after finishing off a cross from Fortune Omotto but Batoto ba Mungu waited patiently for the second half before Darius Msagha levelled matter in the 61st minute. In the 79th minute, veteran midfielder Humphrey Mieno won the game for Sofapaka with a beautifully taken effort from outside the box.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards’ poor run in the league continued after they suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat against Bidco United. After a 0-0 result in the first half, Sheriff Musa put Bidco ahead after connecting to a cross from Chris Opondo.
Two minutes later, Bidco doubled their lead when a cross from Musa was diverted into the net for an own goal. Ingwe responded with a double change – Victor Otieno and Munyendo Boniface – coming in for Victor Omune and Jaffari Awiti – and the changes by coach Tomas Trucha almost paid off when Omune cancelled the deficit but it was too late as Bidco held on to carry the day.
At the end of the final whistle, Ingwe fans besieged the club officials demanding the resignation of chairman Dan Shikanda. In other matches, pressure continued to pile on Tusker coach Robert Matano after he failed to beat Posta Rangers in a 0-0 draw at Ruaraka grounds. The Brewers have now gone for two straight matches without a victory, the last ending in a 0-0 draw against AFC Leopards and now the 0-0 result against the Mailmen.
