Brazilian defender Gabriel scored his first goal of the season to give Arsenal the perfect start away to Liverpool on Saturday, but from then on it was his defensive qualities that stood out.
Gabi netted our earliest ever Premier League goal away to Liverpool – after just three and a half minutes – to give the Gunners the perfect start, and from then on was involved in the thick of a hugely competitive match against the fellow high-fliers.
It was his 11th Premier League goal in all, more than any other defender has netted since he arrived in England at the start of the 2020-21 season. Afterward, he said the team were proud of the display, even if there was a tinge of disappointment for not taking maximum points.
“It was a really intense game,” he said, adding: “It’s so hard to play here against a big team. Of course we wanted three points, we came back with one point, but the team played very well and yes, we need to relax now and come back strong.”
“I’m so happy to score my first goal this season and help the team, and thank the fans for their support for this. We are strong at the back, but they have a quality as well. But everyone today worked so hard.”
