Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was pleased to see his side push Tottenham all the way and highlighted the improvements his team have made over the recent weeks despite falling to defeat in the Emirates FA Cup third round at Tottenham.
Burnley gave Spurs a tight contest in North London and created several opportunities but it took a wonder strike from Pedro Porro in the 79th minute to separate the two sides.Speaking post-match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Kompany discussed the Clarets’ impressive display and says his side just need to add the ‘final pieces’ to complete a performance.
“It was a battle out there for 97 minutes, right until the end of the game and for us that’s a clear sign of improvement.
“I’ve never known the mood of the camp to be a bit joyful after a defeat, obviously we’re disappointed with the result but it’s just those key moments now.
“You know, I think we’ve earned the right to be in those games and to play these type of games. At the beginning of the season the gap was too big and what you can see today it’s just that final piece we need to bring.
“If you watch the beginning of the season, you would see the improvements made by the team and if you watch out last 12 games, we have been in them.”
