Bayer 04 have confirmed striker Victor Boniface sustained a muscle-tendon injury and will undergo surgery that will keep him out of action until April.
The Nigeria international was among players summoned by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off in Ivory Coast in January 13. However, after linking up with Nigeria squad, Boniface picked up an injury while training.
The injury forced Peseiro to send Boniface back to his club in Germany and replaced him with Terim Moffi.
Through their social media handle, Bayer 04 have confirmed Boniface sustained an injury in the right adductor area and will have to undergo surgery to repair the same.
“Victor sustained a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor area during preparations for the Africa Cup and will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to be out of action until early April,” read the stament on Bayer 04’s social media pages.
