Victor Boniface, an injured striker for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, had a successful operation at his German Bundesliga team, Bayer Leverkusen.
Boniface received a groyne injury at the Super Eagles camping practice in Abu Dhabi and he was ruled out of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Terem Moffi, an attacker for OGC Nice, took his place, but Boniface will need surgery to close the incision.
Leverkusen made the announcement on social media that the Nigerian international had a successful surgery and would be returning to Germany to begin his recuperation.
“Victor Boniface was successfully operated today (Wednesday) in Berlin.
“The striker will return to Leverkusen later this week to start his rehabilitation process,” the club said.
