AFCON AFCON 2023: Morocco coach Regragui delivers verdict ahead of kick-off

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has delivered his own verdict on what to expect when the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament gets underway in Ivory Coast on Saturday.

The Atlas Lions are in Group F with DR Congo, Zambia and Tanzania but according to the former player, the level of competition is expected to be very high.

“We are realistic in knowing that there is also the level of motivation and ours is very high. I imagine this is the case with the other teams too,” said Regragui as quoted by CAFOnline, adding: “We have the humility to say that we respect everyone, that we are not the best team on paper but we absolutely want to bring home this trophy.”

Regragui further explained why he thinks the tournament will be one of the best in history.

“It’s a competition that will surely be one of the best in history when we see the number quality players of each nation. There are great players on practically all the teams who play in the big clubs in the world,” said Regragui.

Morocco, who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, are one.among the the biggest favorites for the tournament.
