Despite some of his top players missing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injuries, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro believed that his team still has enough quality to perform well.
Due to injuries, Umar Sadiq, Wilfred Ndidi, and Victor Boniface are not able to compete.
To take the place of the injured players, Alhassan Yusuf, Terem Moffi, and Paul Onuachu have been called up.
Peseiro asserted that his club can still hold its own against any Cote d’Ivoire team.
“It’s unfortunate that those players can’t be here with us, they all want to play but they can’t because of injury, Peseiro told a press conference in Abidjan on Saturday.
“The good thing is that we have the players to replace them.
“It’s not much of a problem for us because we have picked players with the same profile.
“Onuachu is similar to Sadiq, Moffi and Boniface are not different, same thing with Ndidi and Alhassan.
“These players have different characters, but in terms of profiles they are not different.
On Sunday, at the Alassanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, the Super Eagles will take on Equatorial Guinea in the opening game of their AFCON 2023 campaign.
