AFCON AFCON 2023: Egypt fought to the end and deserved to beat Ghana – Vitoria

Egypt coach Rui Vitoria expressed his delight with the team’s performance after coming twice from behind to snatch a 2-2 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw against Ghana on Thursday.

In the Group B fixture, Mohammed Kudus struck from distance to give the Black Stars the lead at the stroke of half-time before Omar Marmoush restored parity for the Pharaohs after the break.

Two minutes later, a lapse in concentration allowed Kudus to complete his brace and score Ghana’s second but Mostafa Mohamed levelled the scoring for Egypt late in the game.

“I have full confidence in my team, I saw men this evening who fought to the end only victory eluded us. We showed great qualities this evening against a revitalized Ghana. The players applied our instructions perfectly. There was room to win the match,” said Vitoria.

On the injury suffered by Mohamed Salah towards the end of the first half, the Portuguese tactician said: “At the moment, I cannot comment on the seriousness of his injury. Of course, we are worried and we hope it is not too serious. We will have to keep the same state of mind for the next match against Cape Verde.”
