AFCON AFCON 2023: Daka Rescues A Point For Zambia

Patson Daka struck a late equaliser to save a 1-1 draw for 10-man Zambia and prevent opponents Tanzania from winning Group F for the first time at the AFCON 2023.

Tanzania began their tournament with a 3-0 loss to Morocco, but Daka’s spectacular header in the 88th minute insured a share of the spoils.

Simon Msuva’s goal in the 11th minute gave Tanzania the lead at the Laurent Pokou Stadium and set them up for their first win at the finals.

The Democratic Republic of Congo held Morocco to a 1-1 draw earlier at the same location.

Following two games apiece, Morocco led with four points, followed by the Congolese and Zambians with two, and Tanzania with one.

Tanzania was not given much of a chance at the competition in the Ivory Coast, especially after coach Adel Amrouche was given an eight-match suspension on Friday.

Tanzania had lost in their two prior finals appearances, in 1980 and 2019.
