Moses Simon was handed a starting jersey ahead of the preferred Ademola Lookman while Joe Aribo was drafted to operate from the midfield.

The Super Eagles took the game to their opponents as they created more clear cut chances with Victor Osimhen missing an opportunity to give Nigeria the lead.

However, Moses Simon sent in a low cross from the left looking for Victor Osimhen but as Sangante attempted to clear ahead of the striker he could only steer the ball into the roof of his own net after 36 minutes.

Nigeria dominated the game, but poor finishing meant that the match remained tight until the very end. Both teams had late goals rightfully disallowed for offside, and Osimhen missed multiple opportunities to secure the three points early in the match.

It was the Super Eagles 100th African Nations Cup game as they finished second with seven points behind Equatorial Guinea who defeated host, Ivory Coast to top the group on goal difference.
