Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali kept his fourth clean sheets Following the 1-0 win over Angola in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 AFCON.
Nwabali who plays for Chippa United in the DSTV Premiership has been preferred as Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper by Jose Peseiro ahead Francis Uzoho.
He has however has continously repaid the confidence of the coach on him and has been instrumental to the Super Eagles wins.
Nwabali with Friday’s clean sheet has etched his name in the history book of the Nigeria senior national team as the first goalkeeper to keep dour consecutive clean slate in a major tournament.
The last Super Eagles goalkeeper that kept a clean sheet in a major tournament was Best Ogedegbe in 1980.
Another goalkeeper who came close was Allo AGI who kept three clean sheet in a row on 1990
Nwabali has now surpassed Agu’s record to become the joint goalkeeper to have the record with Ogedegbe
He could surpass the record and set his own if he repeat the feat in the semi final game.
The Super Eagles has gone to win all their four games in the AFCON 2023 after their 1-1 draw against Equatorial-Guinea in the Group A opener.
