Star player Victor Osimhen of Nigeria is a serious doubt for Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semifinal match against South Africa in Bouake, according to team officials.
Due to stomach trouble, Super Eagles spokesman Babafemi Raji said in a statement that Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, did not travel to Bouake on Monday along with the rest of the squad.
“We will fly from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Victor Osimhen will not join us on this trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort.
“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him.
“If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”the statement read.
The team left Abidjan on Monday night, without the reigning African Player of the Year having trained.
Osimhen was replaced late in the weekend’s quarterfinal matchup with Angola.
In the competition, the 25-year-old has assisted and scored goals.
