Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga) outclassed Mashujaa FC 2-1 at Azam Complex to move six points clear at the summit of the table on Thursday.
Max Nzengeli scored the opener for the Timu ya Mwananchi at the stroke of halftime before a stunning shot by Mashujaa’s Emmanuel Mtumbuka in the 64th minute pegged Yanga back. At 1-1, the game started afresh with the visitors looking sharp and dangerous when marching forward.
After several hits and misses from either side, the big moment came in the 85th minute when Yanga’s midfielder Mudathir Yahya rescued his side. He slotted in at a close range with the ball passing in between Mashujaa defenders before crossing the goal line.
With the outcome, Yanga now have 37 points at the top of the log, Azam are second with with 31 points while Yanga rivals Simba SC are third with 29 points. On Friday, Simba will host Azam at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.
