Serie A Inter Milan Ease Past Salernitana To Hold Firm To Top Place

Leaders Inter Milan strengthened their hold on the top spot in Serie A on Friday by easily defeating bottom-place Salernitana 4-0 at home. They performed as expected.

Marcus Thuram, Marko Arnautovic, Lautaro Martinez, and Denzel Dumfries all scored goals to complete the victory, which moved Simone Inzaghi’s team to 63 points, ten ahead of second-place Juventus, who were taken to task by Udinese on Monday.

Thuram struck hard from the centre of the box after Carlos Augusto’s cross to give the home team the lead in the seventeenth minute.

Two minutes later, Serie A’s top scorer Martinez extended the lead with his 20th league goal of the year, curving a fantastic long-range strike off Augusto’s second assist of the evening.

After Giuseppe Meazza and Stefano Nyers, the Argentina international became just the third player to score at least 20 goals in three straight seasons of the Italian league.

In the 40th minute, Dumfries scored three goals after custodian Guillermo Ochoa’s rebound was cleared, and in the dying moments of the match, substitute Arnautovic’s tap-in completed the rout.

On Tuesday, Inter will play the opening leg of their Champions League last-16 match against Atletico Madrid.
