Nigeria Women Football League NWFL: Delta Queens Beat Ekiti Queens To Keep Super Six Hope Alive

Delta Queens kept their hope of qualifying to the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL Super Six alive with a convincing 2-1 win against Ekiti Queens at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.

The defending champions who were let down by poor officiating on Matchday 8 against Sunshine Queens bounced back to winning ways against their opponent.

With five players from the team currently in the Falconets camp ahead of the All African Games, Delta Queens, coach Tosan Blackson had to rig changes to the squad.

Coach Tosan made three Changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Sunshine Queens in Akure with Ihuoma Onuegbu returned to the goalpost while Witika Natasha who joined during the transfer window was handed a starting berth.

Delta Queens bossed the game from the start dictating the pace and looking.more threatening and just five minutes of action, Olabiyi Folajomi gave the visitors the lead.

The host could have scored more goals but but failed to make their chances countas they headed to the break on 1-0 lead.

The Pearls continued from where they stopped in the first half as they pushed their opponents down to their own half.

Maureen Okpala doubled the lead for the NWFL defending champions in the 50th minute to double the lead and put her team on the wheel of claiming the maximum three points.

However, they let their guard loss in th nick of time time as the visitors pulled one back courtesy of a goal from Okotete Rachael.

The game went on to end 2-1 in favour of Delta Queens putting them in a better position to push for the top three in Group B of the NWFL for the Super Six playoff.
