Kenya Trucha reveals why AFC Leopards dropped points against Kakamega Homeboyz

AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha blamed “internal problems” for the team’s failure to beat Kakamega Homeboyz in their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.

Ingwe went into the “Ingo derby” on a run of five straight victories in the top-flight but they found it difficult to break down a resilient Abana Beingo.side, who played well to snatch a vital point from the game.

Speaking afterwards, the Belgian coach fell short of explaining why his side could not emerge victorious but pointed out at “issues” that affected the team though he could not divulge them.

“I don’t know how to explain what happened before the game, I can’t quite put the problems we faced into words, but I must admit we faced some internal challenges within our camp that hindered our preparations for the game,” said Trucha.

Asked whether he was satisfied with the outcome, Trucha said: “I’m content with the draw we secured from such a demanding derby, we had some internal problems so it was not easy to prepare the team for this game so I am happy for the boys that we achieved a clean sheet and all the three points.”

Trucha further admitted the derby being a tough game for both sides by saying: “It was a derby and you know what is a derby, you don’t make mistakes in a derby, we did make mistakes and they also did but I must admit it was a tight game and a 0-0 result os a fair one for both teams.”

Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo rued missed chances for not winning the game “we had dominated for most parts. “We must blame ourselves because we created more chances than what AFC created in the entire game but we never used them, it is the problem we have been facing all through the season, creating chances but not turning them into goals,” said Odhiambo.

Heading into the fixture, Ingwe had won their last five matches – 1-0 against Ulinzi Stars, 1-0 against Muhoroni Youth, 2-0 against Nairobi City Stars, 2-0 against Kariobangi Sharks and a 1-0 result against Murang’a Seal. The draw against Homeboyz kept Ingwe eighth on the 18-team table with 31 points while Homeboyz remained a place above them with 33 points.
