Nigerian Players abroad Awoniyi Assist Not Enough As Aston Villa Beat Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi assist was not enough for Nottingham Forest who suffered a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Awoniyi who scored last week in Forest 2-0 win against West Ham turned to provide the assist for Moussa Niakhate to level from Nottingham Forest after Ollie Watkins put the hosts in front.

In the 29th minute, Villa extended their lead when Douglas Luiz scored his eighth league goal of the year after Jacob Ramsey dragged back the ball. Villa had tremendous success attacking down Forest’s left flank.

Ten minutes later, Luiz found the back of the net once more, heading in a superb cross from John McGinn.

However, the visitors were given a lifeline when defender Moussa Niakhate scored in stoppage time in the fifth minute with a goal from a corner.

Three minutes after the interval, Morgan Gibbs-White pulled one back for Forest to quiet the home crowd.

However, Youri Tielemans’ header against the crossbar soon restored their faith as Villa started to reclaim the lead.

Eight minutes later, Bailey restored their two-goal lead, first responding to a deflected Watkins effort to slot home from close range.

Despite Forest’s best efforts, they were only able to generate one more attempt on goal, and Watkins had a late chance to score his second that went high and wide.

With 52 points, Villa maintained their fourth-place standing, three points behind Arsenal, while Forest is in 16th place with 24 points, four above the relegation zone.
