Serie A Lecce Appoints Gotti As New Manager After D’Aversa Sack

Luca Gotti has been named coach of Lecce till the end of the season, the Serie A team said on Wednesday. Roberto D’Aversa was fired last weekend for head-butting a rival player.

Following Lecce’s 1-0 home loss on Sunday, D’Aversa was fired on Monday due to the incident involving Thomas Henry, a striker for Hellas Verona.

“Lecce announces that the technical management of the first team has been entrusted to coach Luca Gotti.

The coach has signed an agreement until June 30, 2024, with renewal in the event of avoiding relegation,” Lecce said in a statement.

After 22 games and with the team in danger of relegation, Gotti was fired from his most recent coaching position at Spezia, where he had previously led Udinese.

With 25 points, one more than the relegation zone, Lecce is currently 16th in the rankings. On Saturday, they will visit Salernitana, the bottom team.
