Kobbie Mainoo who is one of Ghana Black Stars’ staff target has been given a first England national team call-up by Gareth Soutghate on Tuesday afternoon.

The 18-year old Manchester United midfielder who is born to a Ghanaian father was called-up with the U-21 side for this FIFA break but has been finally drafted to the senior team.

“Kobbie Mainoo has received his first call up to the England men’s senior squad. The 18 year old was initially part of the MU21s squad but has been drafted into Gareth Southgate’s group”, Three Lions’ statement reads.

Kobbie Mainoo was a target for Ghana

In February this year, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Dr Randy Abbey revealed Kobbie Mainoo was a target for the Black Stars coaching staff.

“The Ghana Football Association is interested in monitoring, attracting, and persuading all eligible talents for its various national teams”, he said.

“Kobbie is definitely one of such incredible talents, and the Association will love to work with him and many like him home and abroad.”

However, with this England call-up, the 18-year old who has 2 goals in 20 appearances with Manchester United this season could barely change his mind again with the Euros happening in three months.
