At the African Games, Chidi Anthony Okezie emerged victorious in the Men’s 400m final, setting a personal record with a time of 45.06 seconds.

This marked Okezie’s first victory as an African champion.

He had only won a bronze medal in 2019 on the continent since he began representing Nigeria in Durban in 2016.

In the men’s 400m hurdles heat 2, Nigerian Samson Nathaniel advances to fourth place.

Day 3 of the 2023 African Games saw the 22-year-old Kenyan sprinter Moraa Mary take first place in the women’s 400-meter final with a time of 50.57 seconds, earning the first gold medal in the sport. In 2019, she was also awarded a gold.

With a time of 51.61 seconds, Joseph Esther Elo of Nigeria won the silver medal, and Sibiri Sita of Burkina Faso took home the bronze in 51.74 seconds.
