Friendly Dessers, Lookman Hand Nigeria Jollof Rice Bragging Right Against Ghana

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Black Stars of Ghana, their fierce rivals, 2-1 in a friendly international match held in Marrakech, Morocco, today.

Ademola Lookman and Cyril Dessers both scored goals, giving Super Eagles interim coach Finidi George his first victory.

The Black Stars have now lost their last six games due to the outcome.

Ghana’s consolation goal was scored by Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew.

Benjamin Tanimu, a former Bendel Insurance defender, earned his Eagles debut.

In addition, team captain Wilfred Ndidi made a comeback to the game.

Otto Addo, the Black Stars coach who was just reappointed, did not have the finest of returns.

The Black Stars keeper erred in the third minute, giving the Eagles their first opportunity of the match.

However, the goalie atoned for his actions by stopping Kelechi Iheanacho’s goal-bound shot.

Iheanacho tried testing the keeper from the edge of the box in the tenth minute, but his shot was blocked for a corner.

The Eagles kept producing opportunities, and they nearly got paid when Dessers outran his defender and struck low, but the keeper blocked it.

Iheanacho also had a close-range attempt two minutes later, but his volley went over the bar and into the corner.

On minute 31, the goalie denied Dessers once more as he palmed away his attempt following a deft free kick from Iheanacho.

After a Black Stars player handled the ball with his hand, Dessers scored a penalty kick that threw the goalie the wrong way, rewarding the Eagles in the 38th minute.

Antoine Semenyo got Ghana’s first meaningful opportunity with two minutes remaining in the first half, but he was unable to keep his shot down and it missed the mark.

In the second half, the Black Stars were more focused and came dangerously close to equalising, but the ball missed the post by an inch.

Iheanacho drove towards the Black Stars box in the 53rd minute, but he saw the low attempt miss the mark.

After three minutes, Ghana attempted to attack, but Stanley Nwabali blocked a header that was headed for the goal, forcing a corner.

On minute sixty-two, Dessers had a chance to double the lead, but his strike off a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi missed the mark.

Lookman doubled the score in the 84th minute as he chipped past the goalkeeper after receiving an unmarked pass.

On minute 94, Ayew scored a goal from the penalty spot to give the Black Stars a comeback.

Nwabali produced a fantastic save to thwart a goal-bound attempt as the Black Stars came dangerously close to grabbing a late equaliser.

The Eagles will play again in a friendly match in Marrakech on Tuesday, March 26th, against Mali.
