Nigerian Players abroad Ndidi, Iheanacho Feature In Leicester Defeat To Bristol City

Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action for Leicester City who suffered a 1-0 loss to Bristol City on Friday.

Both players returned to their Championship club following the international break where they featured in Super Eagles friendly against Ghana and Mali.

In Friday’s game for the Foxes, Ndidi played full time while Iheanacho came in as a substitute for Jamie Vardy in the 74th minute.

With the defeat, Leicester’s chances of making an instant return to the Premier League took a further hit.

Anis Mehmeti of City scored the game’s lone goal at Ashton Gate with a left-footed effort that went into the roof of the net with 17 minutes remaining.

After dominating the league for the majority of the season, Leicester has suddenly dropped to second place in the standings behind Leeds after winning just one of their past six Championship games.

The former England striker, who was a key player in Leicester’s incredible Premier League victory eight years ago, Jamie Vardy, came the closest to scoring for the Foxes, but Max O’Leary made two fantastic saves to deny the former England player.

The lucrative Premier League is only guaranteed to the top two clubs at the conclusion of the regular season.

The remaining spots in the top division are determined by a series of play-off games between the teams that finish third through sixth.

Leicester is still in second place, one point ahead of Ipswich but tied with Leeds, the leaders, in terms of points.
