Dstv Premiership Sundowns tie down Ronwen Williams to contract extension

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has signed a new four-year deal with newly crowned Dstv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns:

A statement on the club’s official website confirmed: “Mamelodi Sundowns is proud to announce that they have agreed on a four-year contract extension with a one-year option that will see Goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana Captain Ronwen Williams remain at Chloorkop until at least 2028.

“The goalkeeper, who joined the club in 2022, has been a mainstay between the posts since his arrival, helping the club win the DStv Premiership, the African Football League (AFL) and qualify for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.”

Speaking on his extension, Williams expressed his delight to be continuing with the Yellow Nation by saying: “I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club. There is so much that we can achieve as a team & I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement.

“It was an easy decision for me, I’ve been happy since day one. The club has helped me grow as a football player and as a person, so it was a no-brainer for me [to extend].”

Williams has enjoyed a stellar 2023-24 campaign for both club and country, helping The Brazilians achieve a record start in the League and keeping numerous clean sheets.

He showcased his incredible talents on the global stage, with outstanding performances in goal for the South African national team at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament earlier this year in Ivory Coast, which ended in a third-place finish.
