Nigeria Women Football League NWFL Super Six: Edo Queens Get First Win As Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels Settle For Draw

The 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League NWFL Super Six playoffs kicked off today as Edo Queens thrashed Confluence Queens 5-1 on Matchday one.

Emem Essien scored the first goal of the NWFL Super Six as she broke the deadlock in the 13th minute to give Edo Queens the lead.

However, Confluence Queens equalized in the 21 minutes through Merit Offor.

Confluence Queens could barely finished celebrating their equalizer when Goodness Osigwe restored Edo Queens lead in the 23rd minute which opened the flood gate of goals for Edo Queens.

Chioma Moses doubled the lead in the 34th minute before Emem completed her brace for the day as she scored in the 39th minute heading to the break.

The second half seemed to be lacking of goals until Goodness netted her second of the game in the 60th minute to wrap up matters for Edo Queens.

In the other Matchday One games, Nasarawa Amazons missed the chance of getting all the three points as they missed a penalty against Heartland Queens.

Heartland Queens thought they had found the back of the net through Mary Lucky but the effort was ruled out for an offside in the 5th minute.

In the 19th minute, Nasarawa Amazons got the chance to gain the lead from the spot after a Heartland defender handled the ball inside the box.

But Heartland Queens goalkeeper Chukwu Uchenna, made a double saves to deny Chinyere Kalu from the spot.

Both teams failed to score as the game ended goalless.

The final game of Matchday one was the South-South derby between Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels.

Bayelsa Queens drew the first blood in the 55th minute through Fehintola Mabokanje who opened the scoring from the spot after Rivers Angels player handled the ball inside the area.

With eight minutes left to the end of the game, Rita Peter leveledb for Rivers Angels as the game ended 1-1.
